The Motu River is fast flowing cobbled bottomed river that is great for fishing, kayaking, swimming and family picnics. This site is monitored by NIWA and is one of the original National River Water Quality Network (NRWQN) sites dating back to 1989.

This site is about 12km upstream of SH60 at Motueka and about 5km downstream of Ngatimoti.

At the bottom of a largely rural catchment and immediately adjacent to the Mowhanau Township, the water quality at this site can be heavily impacted at times and historically swimming has not been reccomended. This is a popular spot for picnicing and gives access to the west coast beach.

Nelson Creek is located about half an hour north of Greymouth. The swimming hole is in a reserve area just off the main road, by the Nelson Creek Hotel.

A popular beach and lagoon located southwest from Invercargill, this is a stunning sandy beach, with parking areas directly alongside.

Ngā Huinga (Cherry Grove Domain) in Taumarunui is a popular spot for those travelling the Whanganui River by canoe or kayak. The Ōngarue and Whanganui Rivers frame the domain and swimming in both rivers is a popular pastime.
