The Motu River is fast flowing cobbled bottomed river that is great for fishing, kayaking, swimming and family picnics. This site is monitored by NIWA and is one of the original National River Water Quality Network (NRWQN) sites dating back to 1989.   

This site is about 12km upstream of SH60 at Motueka and about 5km downstream of Ngatimoti.

At the bottom of a largely rural catchment and immediately adjacent to the Mowhanau Township, the water quality at this site can be heavily impacted at times and historically swimming has not been reccomended. This is a popular spot for picnicing and gives access to the west coast beach.
