State

State refers to the condition of a site, catchment, region or the whole of New Zealand over a defined time period.

For LAWA's Water Quality and Air Quality topics, the state is calculated using data points collected over set time periods to get an overall value (e.g. a mean, median or maximum number).  View a factsheet on calculating water state.

For the Land Cover topic, the state values show what proportion of the land area is covered by each land cover class, for the year shown.  View a factsheet on calculating land cover state.
