This is an unvegetated intertidal site near the Pāuatahanui Wildlife Reserve, which has been significantly affected by nearby road and urban developments. It is monitored for metals, sediment nutrients and muddiness every five years.
The amount of mud in the intertidal is increasing over time, causing a decline in the number of species and the loss of several sand-dwelling animals from the site.
