Oruru River

The Peria River is the main tributary of the Oruru River, which originates from the Otangaroa Forest and flows north through native forest and scrub. Other tributaries include the Te Awapuka and Waiwhero streams. In the lower catchment, the river meanders through pastoral land and eventually flows out into the Taipa River.

The underlying geology is dominated by volcanic acidic rock, with some areas of soft sediments. The sampling site is located in the lower reaches of the river.
