Waipa River at Ngaruawahia Br

This site is only monitored for recreation every second year. Data from the past three monitored bathing seasons shows that the Overall Recreation Risk here is Moderate.

The riverbed at this location consists of sand and silt. The riparian cover is dominated by willows but provides little shade to the channel.

The Waipa River is very turbid at this point just upstream of its confluence with the Waikato River. The Waikato River then flows down to the Tasman Sea at Port Waikato. The Waipa River is the largest tributary of the Waikato River and runs for 115km upstream of this point.

Landuse upstream of the monitoring site will affect the water quality. High flow events can also elevate the sediment and bacteria levels, which may lead to poor water quality and clarity.
