Mārahau River

The Mārahau River flows into Tasman Bay (Te Tai-o-Aorere) at the village of Mārahau, located at the southern end of Abel Tasman National Park.

Around 75% of the Mārahau catchment is in public conservation land. The remainder of the catchment is farmland (15%), forestry (8%) and rural residential land (2%).

The predominant geology in the catchment, Separation Point granite, is highly erodible. Severe weather events have led to landslides and debris flows which move large quantities of sands and gravels into the river.
