Waingongoro River at Eltham Presbyterian Camp

This ring plain river drains an extensively developed agricultural catchment, with the survey site situated in Eltham, some 21km below the National Park boundary.  The site is used as part of the adjacent Eltham Presbyterian camp’s activities. 

For all sites, the Council advises:

Avoid for three days after heavy rain, if the river is high, or if you cannot see the bottom clearly.

Summer recreational surveys showed that 92% (2016-2017) and 69% (2017-2018) of samples met the freshwater microbiological water quality guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Environment in conjunction with the Ministry of Health (MfE, 2003) and did not exceed the ‘Action’ level (>550 E.coli cfu/100mls).
