Oroua at Almadale Slackline

This site is located near the picnic reserve at the end of Almadale Road. Landuse in the catchment upstream is predominantly rural and the Oroua catchment is undergoing soil conservation work through the Sustainable Landuse Initiative to reduce sediment from erosion prone land entering the river.

The Oroua River in the vicinity of this site is valued as a locally significant trout fishery.

Water quality results measured at this site reflect the cumulative impact of all activities upstream of this point. The geology of this catchment makes it susceptable to erosion, sediment eroding into the river can impact on water quality as it decreases clarity, increases turbidity and brings a number of other contaminants into the water also. There is one major point source discharge to the catchment upstream of this point which is the discharge of treated wastwater from the township of Kimbolton.
