Wairoa River at Yacht Club

The estuary in the lower part of the Wairoa River is used for yachting and swimming.  A cycle and walking trail nearby connects with the Wairoa township.  Because this site can be influenced by both salt and freshwater the salinity determines whether E. coli or Enterococci is measured.

Wairoa River is the largest river in Hawke’s Bay.  The predominant land use within the catchment is agricultural with sheep/beef farming and some dairying.  The sampling sites are beside the ski club upstream from the highway bridge in the township and at the yacht club ramp in the estuary.
