Wainui Stream
Wainui Stream drains recent subdivisions at Sponge Bay and Wheatstone Road and adjacent land between Wainui Beach and Gisborne city. The exit to the sea is at the southern end of Wainui Beach.
Stream bank erosion of the Wainui Stream is an issue within the tidal area. Storm surge waves enter the stream and have an effect on the coastal dunes and the stream bank.
Water quality varies considerably.
