Rakaia River at Gorge
The Rakaia River is a large alpine-fed braided river. This site at the gorge is located in the upper reaches, close to Mount Hutt.
The Rakaia gorge is a popular tourist attraction. There is a carparking area beside the bridge where there are toilets, information signs and where the tourist jet boat operates from. The Rakaia Gorge walkway also begins here.
This site has good water quality with low nutrients and E.coli concentrations. The low water clarity is due to its alpine influences.
