Blue Duck Creek

Blue Duck Stream is a small hill-fed river approximately 16 km north of the township of Kaikoura.  It drains a catchment of disturbed native vegetation.

Aquatic ecological health is monitored at a site accessed off Blue Duck Valley Road and through private land. This stream is a mix of run, pool and riffles and bed substrates are primarily a mix of gravel and cobbles. The true right bank along the sampling reach is relatively steep and there is a reasonable amount of erosion in some areas, which is a source of fine sediment deposits to the stream. The riparian vegetation is primarily native species.
