Balguerie Stream at Balguerie Rd

Balguerie Stream is a small confined stream with its headwaters up towards Stony Bay Peak. The stream flows for about 3 km before entering Akaroa Habour.

This site on Balguerie Stream is monitored for aquatic ecosystem health as part of the State of the Environement monitoring programme. It is located below the bridge that crosses Settlers Road, just off Rue Balgurie in the township of Akaroa. Access is through a small car park before the bridge.

The stream is a mix of pool, run and riffle-chute type habitat in the upper areas and the streambed is dominated by boulder and cobble substrate.  Immediate riparian vegetation is primarily native species.
