We warmly invite you to the 2019 New Zealand River Awards.

The Awards recognise where communities, councils, farmers and industry are achieving significant improvement in water quality in one or more of their local rivers.

The NZ 2019 River Awards are proudly bought to you by Cawthron and our generous sponsors include Lane Neave, Ministry for the Environment and the Department of Conservation. This annual Wellington-based event is attended by over 100 key stakeholders and highlights of the evening include:

  • Most Improved River Awards – announcing our most ‘Improved Rivers’, which are determined by a judging panel of scientists using monitoring data from the Land Air Water Aotearoa (LAWA) database. This year, E.coli (water quality) and the MCI (biological health) will be combined to reflect a more representative indicator of water health.
  • River Story Awards – The health of rivers is important to New Zealanders and all the projects that we heard about illustrate people and communities working hard to help improve river health. We have selected eight finalist stories and will make these public shortly.
  • Reo Mō Te Awa (River Voice) Award – an individual who has the raised the profile of rivers through public commentary.
  • Keynote speaker – Professor Stuart Bunn, Griffith University and Rivers Institute, who will push the boundaries about how we think about river health.

The ticket price is $90 and includes: a three course menu and beverages for the evening. To get your ticket, please follow this link.

The Awards are an opportunity to celebrate those making a positive difference to our rivers and waterways, and to recognise rivers and catchments that are showing the most improvement in water quality. We look forward to seeing you in Wellington.
