Manawatū River Walkway Establishment Planting Day

13 - 14 Jun 2014, 9:30am-9:30am Hori Herehere Reserve Horizons

A two-day community planting session is to take place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th June where the community can enjoy a walk along the River, listen to local history and help plant a few native plants.  All you'll need are your gumboots, gloves and a spade as lunch will be provided.

The well known stretch of the Manawatū River is where the kaitiaki Peketahi lives and has been cleared of weeds to establish a walkway, which will be open to the public during the summer months.

With thanks from the Taumata Farm owners and funding from Central Government’s Fresh Start for Fresh Water Clean-Up Fund through the Manawatū River Leaders’ Accord grants initiative; Te Kāuru-Hapū Collective and Horizons Regional Council have been working on this project over the past nine months.

Te Kāuru-Hapū Collective representative Hine Carberry says that like the Parahaki Island Project the planting is a good opportunity for the community to be involved and be part of bigger vision which is the improvement and health of the Manawatū River.

Each day the planting day will begin at 9.30am at the Hori Herehere Reserve on the corner of Weber Road and Otope Road.  If postponed a notice will be on More FM at 7.30am on the Friday 13 June.  The alternative date if postponed will be the 20th & 21st June.

LUNCH will be provided.  Please RSVP to rmaofficer@rangitane.co.nz by 11th June.
