Wastewater pipe broken in Island Bay, Severn St

Early last week a wastewater pipe malfunctioned in Severn Street. Any leakage from this malfunctioning pipe will be going into the stormwater network, meaning there is an ongoing risk of sewage entering Island Bay. Water quality testing is showing the malfunction appears to be having very little on effect on water quality in the bay, however we still advise people to avoid swimming in Island Bay – especially those that are very young, old or immunocompromised.

Repair works have been scheduled for Wednesday 1st May. In the meantime water quality sampling will continue to be undertaken daily, and a further update will be provided mid-next week on progress of the works.
