Several people have reported gastrointestinal infections after swimming in Lake Puketirini. Particularly for children and vulnerable people it is important to check that the water is clean and clear before taking a dip. Do not swim for 2 or 3 days after heavy or prolonged rain - and be mindful of rain overnight when accounting for this.
