During an emergency or natural disaster water can be contaminated. Floodwaters may contain dangerous levels of E. coli and other harmful bacteria. Wait until the water is no longer brown(red/orange), murky, or otherwise discoloured, it may take longer than the 2 to 3 days advised after heavy rainfall.
