Waikato River at Lake Maraetai Mangakino Boat Ramp

This site is at the Mangakino boat ramp. Lake Maraetai is used extensively over summer for swimming and fishing.

Cyanobacterial samples are taken during swimming season (November to March). These can rapidly bloom to harmful levels. Play it safe - if you can see blooms avoid contact and choose another site to swim. 

It is important that you use your own judgement before getting into the water. 

• Avoid swimming for at least 2 - 3 days after heavy or prolonged rain, even for sites that usually have good water quality.
• Don't swim if the water is murky or smells unpleasant.
