Recreation information has moved to the "Can I Swim Here?" section of LAWA
A disused coal-mined pit, Lake Puketirini is 64 metres deep at its deepest point and is used for many activities such as swimming, kayaking, waka ama, Scuba dive training, boating and water-skiing. There is also a walk around the lake. Public toilets are available here. Access to the boat ramp can be obtained by purchasing an access key from the Waikato District Council. Cyanobacterial samples are also taken during swimming season.
