NPDC wastewater overflow - overflow at Waitara outfall

Please be informed that there has been an overflow from the NPDC wastewater system into the Tasman Sea via the Waitara outfall that has the potential to affect public health.  The discharge occurred yesterday on Saturday 28 June 2025 at around 1530 hours, and was intermittent but not continuous for 20 minutes.  The cause of the discharge was high stormwater inflows overwhelming our wastewater system following the storm event overnight of Friday 27 and Saturday 28 June.

Warning signs advising against swimming have been erected at affected sites, and will be in place for 48 hours after the discharge has ceased.  It is recommended that there is no kai collection / food gathering until 26/07/2025.
