After an incident on the Paatea River today, representatives of Rangitaawhi hapuu along with Ngāti Tūpito, Ngāti Ruanui today together have put a raahui in place on the Paatea River. It also stretches 1km along the beach either side of the river mouth.

There should strictly be:
No fishing, shellfish collecting, recreational activities, boating, motorbike riding and swimming to take place in respect of the deceased and ensure the environment returns to a state of oranga and wellbeing.

The Raahui will stay in place for 7 days from today.
To be lifted Monday 23rd June 6am.
