NPDC wastewater overflow - overflow at Te Henui Pump Station

Please be informed that there has been an overflow from the NPDC wastewater system into the Tasman Sea via the Eliot Street outfall that has the potential to affect public health.  The discharge started 27 June 2025 at 2344 hours and ceased 60 minutes later on 28 June 2025 at 0044.  The cause of the discharge was due to high and intense rainfall overwhelming our Te Henui Pump Station during an adverse weather event and our team responded to get the pump station up and running again to stop the overflow.

Sites affected include:

  • Tasman Sea at Kawaroa Park
  • Tasman Sea below Bunnings
  • East End Beach
  • Huatoki Stream mouth
  • Te Henui Stream mouth

Warning signs advising against swimming have been erected at affected sites, and will be in place for 48 hours after the discharge has ceased.  It is recommended that there is no kai collection / food gathering until 26/07/2025.
