There is an ongoing risk of virus contamination in filter feeding shellfish (i.e. mussels, oysters, cockles, etc.) along the coast between Waiwhakaiho and Bell Block due to the New Plymouth Wastewater Treatment Plant sewage discharge. Shellfish should not be consumed from this part of the coast due to associated health risks.
