Recreation information has moved to the "Can I Swim Here?" section of LAWA
The Waiwhakaiho River drains an extensively developed farmland catchment and flows through approximately two kilometres of urban New Plymouth before reaching this popular domain and recreational area, located nearly four kilometres from the sea.
This site is well-used for swimming, walking, and picnicking along the riverbanks, particularly during weekends and holidays.
Please note that water quality can change with the weather. Avoid swimming if the water looks murky or has an unpleasant smell. Taranaki Regional Council also advises against swimming for at least three days after heavy or prolonged rainfall, even at sites that usually have good water quality.
