Waitara River at Town Wharf

This monitoring site is situated in the lower tidal reaches of the Waitara River, approximately two kilometres upstream of the river mouth. It is located downstream of a catchment that includes consented discharges of treated dairy pond wastewater, particularly from the Manganui River sub-catchment.

The site is popular for a range of recreational activities, including swimming, whitebaiting (in season), fishing, walking and boating.
