Fine scale monitoring site Waimea-E is located in unvegetated sandflats located on the eastern side of Waimea Inlet. Tidal flushing appears to limit the accumulation of fine mud at this site and it is therefore representative of relatively 'healthy' sediment conditions. Monitoring commenced in 2019 with collection of a 3 year consecutive annual baseline, with 5-yearly ongoing monitoring scheduled. Four other sites in the estuary are monitored by Tasman District Council.
