The headwaters of the Rangitīkei are situated in the Kaimanawa Ranges, south-east of Lake Taupo. It flows south through the Central Plateau, past Taihape, Mangaweka, Hunterville, Marton and Bulls to the Tasman Sea at Tangimoana, 40 km south-east of Whanganui.
The Rangitīkei flows through rural areas with sheep and beef farming accounting for about half its land use and dairy farming about 20%.
Some sites are monitored weekly during the summer. Check the Horizons website for more details.
