Regional Council staff have observed mats of toxic algae in the Tukituki River at Walker Road. This algae can be on bedrock or free-floating in the water.
Due to recent heavy rainfall, the reduced water clarity has meant we have been unable to assess whether this toxic algae is still present at this site. The swim warning remains until we are able to assess this site. An update is expected as soon as possible.
The Regional Council advises caution for this swim spot, and encourages users to keep an eye out for toxic algae - particularly for dogs that like to forage, and young children.
