Recreation information has moved to the "Can I Swim Here?" section of LAWA
The Walker Road access point on the Tukituki River east of Waipawa is a popular swimming and recreational spot, and attracts fishers as well. It is downstream of the confluence of the Tukituki and Waipawa Rivers.
The Tukituki at Walker Rd is a cobble dominated site. This area is popular with fishermen and also attracts swimmers and walkers during the summer months.
Elevated levels of bacteria are generally found after heavy and prolonged periods of rain causing increased surface runoff water to enter the river from the surrounding livestock dominated catchment.
