The northern catchment of Chatham Island spans a wide and ecologically significant area from Port Hutt, Waitangi West and Maunganui Beach in the west, to Kaingaroa in the east. The area is shaped by rolling lowlands, volcanic domes and outcrops, limestone ridges, coastal wetlands, and dune systems.
Key rivers in this area include Washout Creek flowing out to Manganui Beach and Whangamoe Inlet near Port Hutt.
