Pegasus Lake at Moto Quay

Please check for warnings signage and check the condition of water before entering it. Toxic algal blooms are indicated if the water is: discoloured, appears grainy, or has surface scums. Identification guides can be found on this web resource.

Pegasus Lake is a man-made lake located in the Pegasus Township in North Canterbury.

This lake is prone to blooms of potentially toxic algae (cyanobacteria) especially during the summer months (November to April) in particular.

While recreational water quality monitoring usually shows very low numbers of E. coli during the summer months and has a grading of "very good'), the presence of toxic algae can make the lake unsuitable for swimming.

This lake is a popular site for swimming and kayaking.
