Recreation information has moved to the "Can I Swim Here?" section of LAWA
This cobble bottom river is located in South Canterbury between Timaru, Cave and St Andrews. The Pareora River Walkway begins here and follows the river up towards the gorge and dam. Swimming is not advised at the dam.
Semi-intensive farming is the main water quality influence at this site. Recreational water quality at this site is influenced by flow related spikes in E. coli. Swimming is not recommended at the site for upto 48hrs following rainfall. During the summer months, potentially toxic cyanobacteria mats may pose a public health risk at this site.
