The Otaio River at Otaio Gorge is a small boulder strewn riverbed in a DOC reserve.
This site is monitored for recreational water quality during the summer months only.
A small area of the shallow gently flowing river near the bridge is often dammed in summer to make a swimming hole. This is a natural area surrounded by scrub. This is a popular freedom camping site.
