Akaroa Harbour is a harbour on the southern side of Banks Peninsula. It is fed by streams that flow from steep volcanic hills into the many bays surrounding the harbour. The upper catchment includes native bush, farmland and regenerating scrubland, while land use in lower areas is predominantly farmland with small settlements at the shoreline including Akaroa, Duvauchelles, Wainui and Takamatua. The waterways are home to unique aquatic ecosystems and also contribute to the harbour’s scenic landscapes and marine biodiversity values.
