Mount Maunganui

There are a number of dusty activities that operate in the Mount Maunganui Industrial Area including fertiliser plants, concrete manufacturers and dry bulk material distributors (such as those that distribute palm kernel).

While there are a number of monitoring sites in the Mount Maunganui airshed, the Rata Street site has been chosen as the representative Town Summary site.  Its location at the northern end of the eastern Port of Tauranga area and its proximity to the adjacent residential zone is an advantage. Prevailing wind for the area is southwesterly so this sites exposure to a range of sources is good.  It is also close to large vessel shipping activity. Given a number of sites within the airshed have required relocation and/or change in monitoring parameter focus, the Rata Street site has a record of 6+ years which makes it valuable for trend analysis for a range of parameters.
