Haparapara

The Haparapara River is located not far from Ōmaio, and emanates from argillite and sandstone dominated Raukūmara ranges which are covered mostly by indigenous vegetation. Over 1292 ha in area the river culminates in an estuarine mouth with exposed and partially vegetated gravel banks. This river is one of the last remaining New Zealand river systems that are entirely free of introduced fish species.
