This site is on a mudflat in the upper basin of the Upper Waitematā Harbour’s main body. It is one of three sites in the main channel of the harbour and is part of a network designed to detect impacts from urban development in the surrounding catchments.
Monitoring of mud content, heavy metal contaminants and macrofauna began in 2005 and sampling now takes place roughly every five years. Mud content is very high and negatively affects the ecological health of the site, and some contaminants may also have negative impacts.
