This site is in the lower basin of the Upper Waitematā Harbour’s main body. It is one of three sites in the main channel of the harbour and is part of a network designed to detect impacts from urban development in the surrounding catchments.
Monitoring of mud content, heavy metal contaminants and macrofauna began in 2005 and now takes place roughly every five years. Mud content is moderately high and metal contaminant concentrations are generally low, so although the site is impacted by mud the ecological health here is better than other parts of the harbour.
