This site is located in the mid reaches of Lucas Creek, an arm extending northeast from the middle basin of the Upper Waitematā. Lucas Upper is approximately 2.5km from the confluence of the main Upper Waitematā channel.
First sampled in 1998, this mostly muddy site has consistently had moderate levels of the heavy metal copper. Today, Lucas Upper is monitored every few years for mud content, metal concentrations and macrofauna.
