This site is in the middle basin of the Upper Waitematā Harbour’s main body. It is one of three sites in the main channel of the harbour and is part of a network designed to detect impacts from urban development in the surrounding catchments.
Monitoring of mud content, heavy metal contaminants and macrofauna began in 2005 and sampling takes place roughly every three years. Mud content is high at this site, and has increased since the start of monitoring, resulting in poor ecological health.
