This site is downstream of the Whau River and its associated sub-estuary. It is located on a relatively exposed sandflat with coarse sand and small ripples, indicating wind and wave activity. Monitoring began in 2000 to expand the regional network of monitoring in sheltered marine environments, and more specifically track any impacts from the Whau River catchment.
Mud content and macrofauna are sampled every four months, and heavy metal contaminants every three years. Mud content and contaminant concentrations are low, resulting in good ecological health at this site.
