This site is in the upper part of the Shoal Bay arm of the Central Waitematā Harbour, located on an intertidal sandflat. Mangroves fringe the adjacent shoreline, and a shell bank separates the site from this muddier area. Monitoring began in 2014 to replace a discontinued site and provides information on any impacts to the Harbour from the Shoal Bay catchment.
Mud content and macrofauna are sampled every four months, and heavy metal contaminants every six years. This site has low mud content and heavy metal contamination and is therefore in good ecological health.
