This site is located on a broad exposed sandflat to the west of Te Tokaroa / Meola Reef, a lava flow forming a reef peninsula which extends over 2km out from the Central Waitematā Harbour’s southern shoreline.
This site has been monitored since 2004 and has consistently recorded low concentrations of metals and currently has fair ecological health. Meola Outer is sampled every few years for metals, mud content and macrofauna.
