Site Meola Inner is situated adjacent to Meola Reef Reserve on the southern shore of the Central Waitematā Harbour. The site is located on a narrow, mangrove lined mudflat in the mid reaches of the Meola Creek inlet. The surrounding land use at this muddy site is mainly residential.
Monitored since 1998, Meola Inner has consistently had high levels of the metals zinc and lead and currently has poor ecological health. This site is sampled every few years for macrofauna, mud content and metal contamination.
