This site is located on a sandflat close to the deep channel that drains from the Upper Waitematā Harbour. The proximity to the channel creates a high flow environment and the site is characterised by coarse, rippled sands and broken shells. The site has been monitored since 2000 and contributes to a regionally representative picture of estuary health.
Mud content and macrofauna are sampled every four months, and heavy metal contaminants every three years. Mud content and contaminant concentrations are low at this site resulting in good ecological health.
