Pakuranga Upper is located in the mid reaches of the Pakuranga Creek, approximately 1.5km from the confluence with the Tāmaki Estuary main channel. This site has deep mud and mangroves line the shoreline. The site is sampled every few years for macrofauna, mud content and metals.
Sampled since 1998, Pakuranga Upper has consistently had high levels of zinc (and sometimes copper) since monitoring began and currently has poor ecological health.
