This site is located on a broad mudflat in the southwest of the Panmure Basin, approximately 150m from shore. The Panmure Basin is a 1.5km wide tidal estuary within a volcanic crater, located just south of Panmure town centre. The basin drains into the Tāmaki Estuary via a narrow channel in the basins east.
This very muddy site has been sampled since 2002 and has consistently had high levels of the heavy metal zinc. Panmure is sampled every few years for macrofauna, mud content and metal concentrations.
