This site is located near the mouth of Little Muddy Creek on the Manukau’s northern coastline. Native forest, mangroves and pockets of residential areas fringe the estuary. Monitoring at Little Muddy began in 2002, and the site is now sampled every few years for macrofauna, mud content and the metals copper, lead, zinc, arsenic, and mercury.
Little Muddy currently has relatively low concentrations of metals, sediment consisting of around 30% mud, and marginal ecological health.
